SPREAD OUT THE COST • KEEP YOUR VACATION AFFORDABLE
Can Cruise Guests Make Monthly Payments?
Yes. In many cases cruise guests do not have to pay the entire cost of their vacation when they book.
Depending on the cruise line, sailing and individual guest, travelers may be able to make ordinary payments toward their reservation over time or use financing programs that offer fixed monthly payments.
Some options may even provide 0% interest and no financing fees for eligible guests and qualifying purchases.
- Each traveler controls their own reservation
- Guests pay the cruise line or approved payment provider directly

THERE IS MORE THAN ONE KIND OF PAYMENT PLAN
Three Ways Cruise Guests May Pay Over Time
The words “monthly payments” can describe very different arrangements. Understanding the difference helps you choose the option that makes the most sense for your vacation.
Pay the Cruise Balance Gradually
After making the required deposit, many reservations allow additional payments to be made before the final-payment deadline.
This is not necessarily financing. You are simply paying down your cruise balance before it becomes due.
Often the simplest optionScheduled Cruise-Line Payments
Some cruise lines let guests schedule future charges to a credit or debit card rather than remembering to make each payment manually.
Royal Caribbean, for example, currently allows guests to schedule payments toward their cruise before final payment is due.
No separate travel loan requiredMonthly Financing
Financing programs such as Affirm or Flex Pay may allow approved travelers to convert the purchase into fixed monthly installments.
Depending on eligibility and the current promotion, some plans may be interest-free while others charge APR.
Approval and terms varySTART WITH THE SIMPLEST METHOD
Can You Pay Monthly Without Borrowing Money?
Often, yes. If your cruise is booked far enough in advance, there may be months between the initial deposit and the cruise line's final-payment date.
During that period you may be able to make payments directly toward the reservation balance. Because you are paying for the cruise before the balance becomes due rather than taking out a separate loan, there is ordinarily no financing interest charged by the cruise line for simply making those payments.
This can be especially useful for a group cruise because every traveler can manage their own budget rather than the organizer collecting everyone's money.
A guest reserves a cruise well in advance, pays the required deposit and then makes regular payments toward the remaining balance until the cruise line's final-payment date.
The exact deposit and deadline depend on the cruise line, fare type and sailing.
ROYAL CARIBBEAN & CELEBRITY CRUISES
How Does Affirm Work for a Cruise?
Royal Caribbean and Celebrity Cruises currently provide eligible guests with payment options through Affirm.
Affirm is different from simply making payments toward a future cruise. It is a financing arrangement with terms offered to the individual traveler.
Royal Caribbean currently advertises fixed installment plans starting at 0% APR. Celebrity Cruises also describes eligible Affirm options that can include four interest-free payments or longer fixed monthly installments.
IMPORTANT DISTINCTION
0% APR Is Available — Not Guaranteed
Affirm's available APR can vary according to eligibility, purchase amount and the specific payment plan.
That means one traveler may qualify for a 0% offer while another traveler may be offered a plan that includes interest.
The correct question is therefore not simply:
“Does Affirm charge interest?”
The better question is:
“What exact terms am I being offered for this cruise?”
NORWEGIAN CRUISE LINE
What Is Norwegian Cruise Line Flex Pay?
Norwegian Cruise Line currently offers eligible guests Flex Pay by Upgrade, a buy-now-pay-later option that can divide a cruise purchase into fixed monthly payments.
Norwegian states that some Flex Pay plans include interest while some are interest-free. NCL also periodically advertises promotional financing with 0% APR on qualifying cruises.
Flex Pay provides the applicant with available loan terms after reviewing factors such as credit information and purchase details.
- Fixed monthly installment options
- Some plans may be interest-free
- Promotional 0% APR may be available on qualifying cruises
- No late fees stated by NCL Flex Pay
- No prepayment charges stated by NCL Flex Pay
- Eligibility check available before selecting a plan
YES — INTEREST-FREE OPTIONS EXIST
Can Cruise Payments Really Be Interest-Free?
Yes, but it is important to separate guaranteed facts from promotional language.
Paying Before Final Payment
Paying portions of a reservation balance directly before it becomes due generally does not create a financing interest charge from the cruise line.
Affirm 0% Plans
Royal Caribbean advertises qualifying Affirm installment plans starting at 0% APR. Celebrity also identifies interest-free Affirm payment options.
NCL Flex Pay
Norwegian says some Flex Pay plans are interest-free and periodically markets 0% APR financing promotions on eligible cruises.
Your Offer Controls
Never assume a plan is interest-free until you see the exact APR, payment amount, term and total cost offered to you.
LOOK BEYOND THE MONTHLY NUMBER
What Does “No Fees” Really Mean?
This is an important distinction because a payment plan can have no fees and still charge interest.
Affirm states that it does not charge late fees, prepayment fees, annual fees or fees to open or close an account.
Norwegian's current Flex Pay information states that its plans have no late fees or prepayment charges.
However, a particular financing plan can still have an APR unless the traveler qualifies for an interest-free offer.
THE DIFFERENCE
These terms are not interchangeable. Always review the actual payment agreement before accepting financing.
CHOOSE THE METHOD THAT FITS YOUR BUDGET
Which Cruise Payment Method Is Best?
ESPECIALLY HELPFUL FOR GROUP CRUISES
Monthly Payments Can Make a Group Cruise Easier to Join
A group organizer may love the cruise idea but every guest has a different household budget. Giving people time to pay can remove one of the biggest barriers to participation.
More Time to Budget
Booking early can give guests months to plan for their vacation instead of facing one large payment.
Individual Choice
One guest can pay the entire balance immediately while another uses available payment options.
No Group Money Collection
The organizer does not need to collect monthly payments from friends, members, viewers or supporters.
Easier Promotion
A long booking window gives the community more time to discuss the vacation and decide whether to join.
BOOKING EARLY CREATES FLEXIBILITY
Why Planning 8–14 Months Ahead Can Help
Payment flexibility is one reason we often recommend that groups begin planning well before their intended sailing.
When guests have plenty of time between booking and final payment, they can spread their personal vacation budget over a much longer period.
Starting earlier can also improve cabin selection and give the group more time to attract interested travelers.
- More time for guests to save
- More time to make voluntary payments
- More time to coordinate vacation schedules
- More cabin choices while inventory remains available
- Less pressure on the group organizer
YOUR GROUP LEADER DOES NOT BECOME THE BANK
Who Collects Everyone’s Monthly Payments?
Not the group organizer.
With America’s Best Cruises, each traveler remains responsible for their own reservation and payments.
That means your family reunion organizer, Rotary president, YouTube creator, fundraiser, club officer or community leader does not need to keep track of thousands of dollars belonging to other travelers.
If a guest chooses financing, the financial arrangement is between the qualifying traveler and the applicable payment provider.
Your cruise money should go toward your cruise — not into the group leader's personal bank account.

Five Questions to Ask Before Choosing Cruise Financing
What Is the APR?
Look for the actual rate offered to you rather than assuming the advertised minimum rate applies.
What Is the Total Cost?
Compare what you will ultimately repay with the original cruise purchase amount.
Is a Down Payment Required?
Some offers may require an amount at checkout even when monthly financing is approved.
How Long Is the Payment Term?
A lower monthly payment can result from a longer repayment period.
What Happens If Plans Change?
Understand the cruise cancellation rules and the financing provider's procedures before accepting the payment plan.
CLEAR ANSWERS BEFORE YOU BOOK
Cruise Monthly Payment Questions
Payment rules change by cruise line, fare, country, sailing and traveler. These answers explain the most important distinctions.
Can cruise guests make monthly payments?
Yes. Depending on the reservation, travelers may make payments toward the cruise before final payment is due or use an approved financing option that creates fixed monthly installments.
Can I make interest-free payments on a cruise?
Potentially. Paying your reservation balance down before the cruise line's final-payment deadline does not generally require a separate financing loan. Some outside financing programs also offer qualifying 0% APR or interest-free plans.
Does Norwegian Cruise Line offer monthly payments?
Norwegian Cruise Line currently offers Flex Pay by Upgrade. Approved travelers can select available monthly installment options. NCL states that some plans are interest-free while others include interest.
Does Norwegian offer 0% financing?
Norwegian periodically offers promotional 0% APR financing through Flex Pay on qualifying cruises. Availability is promotional and can be limited by itinerary, booking dates, eligibility and other terms.
Does Royal Caribbean offer monthly payments?
Yes. Royal Caribbean currently provides both scheduled payment options toward eligible reservations and financing through Affirm.
Does Royal Caribbean offer 0% APR?
Royal Caribbean currently advertises Affirm payment plans starting at 0% APR. The actual APR and payment terms offered depend on eligibility and the purchase.
Does Affirm charge late fees?
Affirm states that it does not charge late fees. It also states that there are no prepayment fees, annual fees or fees to open or close an account. An individual financing plan may still include interest unless it qualifies for 0% APR.
Does Celebrity Cruises allow monthly payments?
Celebrity currently offers Affirm as a financing option. Its published information describes interest-free Pay-in-4 options as well as fixed monthly installment plans, depending on eligibility.
Can I travel before my financing is completely paid?
Some financing products allow repayment to continue after travel because the payment provider pays for the eligible purchase while the traveler repays the financing agreement. This differs from ordinary cruise-line balance payments, which must satisfy the cruise line's final-payment deadline.
Does everyone in a group have to use the same payment method?
Generally no. Each guest controls their own eligible reservation and can choose an available method appropriate to their circumstances.
Does the group organizer collect monthly payments?
No. Under the America’s Best Cruises model, individual travelers remain responsible for their own cruise payments. The organizer does not need to collect or hold the group's vacation money.
Are monthly cruise payments guaranteed?
No. Payment and financing options vary according to cruise line, fare, booking method, country, purchase amount, eligibility and current promotions. The available terms should be verified before booking.
