Why Is Lucayan National Park So Special?
Bahamas tourism describes Lucayan National Park as a 40-acre protected area containing one of the world’s largest underwater cave systems.
Two caves are open for public viewing, while the park’s trails and boardwalks move through several island ecosystems.
The cave system is not a swimming attraction. Bahamas tourism states that swimming in the caves is prohibited and diving requires a special permit.
Follow current Bahamas National Trust and park guidance for access, safety and permitted activities.

Gold Rock Beach
Gold Rock Beach is protected as part of Lucayan National Park and sits approximately 25 miles from Freeport according to Bahamas tourism.
At low tide, the broad exposed shoreline has earned the nickname Grand Bahama’s “welcome mat.”
The beach is intentionally more natural than a developed resort beach. Bahamas tourism notes picnic facilities but limited other amenities.

Garden of the Groves
Bahamas tourism describes Garden of the Groves as a 12-acre nature attraction and one of Freeport’s popular visitor experiences.
Trails wind through tropical vegetation, waterfalls and fountains, with birds, butterflies, a chapel and a recreated labyrinth contributing to the atmosphere.
This can be a good choice for travelers who enjoy nature but do not necessarily want a beach, boat or strenuous activity.
A TINY NATIONAL PARK OFFSHORE
Peterson Cay National Park
Peterson Cay is a small protected marine park off the south coast of Grand Bahama. Bahamas tourism describes it as the smallest national park in The Bahamas and highlights snorkeling and diving around protected reef habitat.

Carnival Cruise Line opened Celebration Key on the south side of Grand Bahama in July 2025 as an exclusive destination purpose-built for Carnival guests.
Carnival describes a mile-long white-sand beach, freshwater lagoons, themed areas and Bahamian food and retail within the destination.
If your itinerary says Celebration Key, plan around that experience. If it says Freeport / Grand Bahama, the port-day possibilities and transportation can be very different.
